Our Mission

Rusted Revolution: Rusted Revolution was created in the fall of 2010 by Lesley Burr and Lucy McBride, two members of the Boston College class of 2011 who share a strong belief in the power and purpose of blog culture. Assuming you at least occasionally (but who are we kidding?) frequent the internet, you have probably read a blog (or two) in your lifetime. If you are like us, however, waking up and reading your favorite blogs is as essential as brushing your teeth and downing that morning Starbucks. So what does Rusted Revolution have to offer you, lovely readers? We promise to provide you with an up-to-date and thought-provoking view of the twenty-first century through our eyes. We will feature subjects that we enjoy and find interesting: this will mainly include fashion, travel, food, and other facets of the visual arts and pop culture. Although we are twenty-one year old Boston-based females (with a New York and Chicago bias), this blog is definitely not tailored to a certain type. We hereby swear to live up to the ever-increasing standards of the blog community and its millions of readers. So read on... subscribe... follow... whatever. We promise you won’t regret it.

Lesley

Lesley Burr is the co-founder and writer of Rusted Revolution. She’s a city gal, born and raised in the heart of Chicago, where she developed an interest in street culture, fashion, music, and arts. Chicago is by far her favorite city in the world and she never stops talking about it, but she also has developed a passion for travel – Bermuda is her favorite resort destination, but she loves visiting the Philippines and her maternal grandmother. Currently enrolled as a senior at Boston College (and anxious about her impending May 2011 commencement and transition into the real world), Lesley purses her interests as an English major, French and History double minor. Language, history, and fashion are her passions. She believes all three of these subjects are different ways of self-expression, and of telling a story. Stories to Lesley are one of the most important aspects of life – they help teach about the past, communicate, entertain, and also look to the future. In the summer of 2010, Lesley interned in the Publications department at the Chicago History Museum. She also currently works part-time at the Chicago State Street A’Gaci store as a fashion consultant, has a personal fashion blog called Biased Cuts, and is the Fashion Intern and a contributing writer for Venus Zine, a Chicago-based, nationwide quarterly women’s arts and culture magazine. She hopes to someday combine her passions for writing, fashion, and traveling into a great career. In the meantime, she enjoys blogging, exploring museums, online shopping for clothes she doesn’t need (but really, really wants) with money she doesn’t have, and spending hours watching Rachel Zoe Project, True Blood, and Weeds.

Lucy

Lucy McBride is the co-founder and writer of Rusted Revolution. Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Lucy developed an early eye for the arts which inspired her to relocate her attentions to a bigger city, where she attended Marymount School of New York in Manhattan. In 2007 Lucy enrolled in Boston College to pursue a French major and an International Studies Minor with a concentration in Global Cultural Studies. Lucy has since perfected her French language skills and gained a strong understanding of Italian. Through various courses in International Studies, she has developed a strong understanding of the cultural, literary, economic, and political undertones of places such as Rome, where she lived and studied for a spring semester. Between her travels through Eastern and Western Europe, Lucy studied Art History, Italian, Opera, and Photography in Rome. In 2007 and 2008, Lucy worked as a U.S. Beauty Marketing Intern for Avon Products, Inc. within their Wellness division; here, she played an active role in the formulation, design and promotion of Avon Wellness products, as well as served as a company correspondent. Since the fall of 2008, Lucy has worked as a Sales Associate for Free People Boston during the school year and Free People Roosevelt Field during winter and fall breaks. As a member of the Free People community, Lucy plays an integral part in sales, customer service, marketing, and visual design. She has achieved the title of “Top Selling Associate” several times. Lucy is passionate about style as an individual art form which encourages individuality, expression, and inspiration. Her guilty pleasures include watching reality television, red velvet cake, and updating her ridiculous large and cumbersome perfume collection.
